GOES-R

Abbreviation for the "R" series of Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites, tentatively scheduled for launch and deployment after 2012. These new satellites will provide greatly enhanced observational capabilities through a full set of new observing systems including ABI, GLM, SIS, and SEISS. GOES-R will also continue to provide a number of auxiliary services for search and rescue (SAR), data collection system (DCS), and an Emergency Managers Weather Information Network (EMWIN). The HES sounder capability has been delayed for future GOES series.
