Couette flow

Couette flow

The steady laminar flow of a viscous fluid between flat plates, one moving uniformly relative to the other, in which the shearing stress is constant within the fluid.

The velocity V relative to the slower-moving plate has a linear profile:

where τ is the shearing stress, μ the dynamic viscosity, and y the distance from the slower plate.
