derived gust velocity

The maximum velocity of a sharp-edged gust that would produce a given acceleration on a particular airplane flown in level flight at the design cruising speed of the aircraft and at a given air density.

The ratio of derived gust velocity to effective gust velocity is not constant but is of the order of 2:1.
