macrometeorology

The study of the largest-scale aspects of the atmosphere, such as the general circulation and weather types.

There is a wide gap between this scale and the relatively small scale of mesometeorology. The gap is bridged by those atmospheric characteristics, referred to as cyclonic scale, that are commonly the subject of synoptic chart analysis.
