potential density

The density an air parcel would attain if compressed adiabatically by descent to the standard pressure of 100 kPa.

The potential density ρ′ is most easily defined in relation to the potential temperature θ as
ams2001glos-Pe32
where p is a pressure of 100 kPa and R the gas constant, in appropriate units.
