washout coefficient

A first-order rate coefficient that relates the rate of removal of a gas or particle from the atmosphere via wet deposition to its concentration.

That is, the rate of removal of the substance (in units of concentration divided by time) is directly proportional to the product of its concentration and the washout coefficient (units of inverse time).
