## buoyancy length scale

A measure of the suppression of vertical turbulent motions by statically stable air.

Defined as: where σ

_{w}is the standard deviation of vertical velocity, and*N*is the Brunt–Väisälä frequency. It is a useful length scale for the stable boundary layer.
