The small area on the anvil of a convective storm that appears colder than the majority of anvil pixels on an infrared satellite image.
The region appears colder because it is associated with an overshooting top that is higher than the mean anvil height. Often an overshooting top is found to be the point of origin of an enhanced "v" signature.
