field changes

The rapid variations of the electric field at the earth's surface and beneath, within, and above thunderclouds.

Used to determine quantitative estimates of the charge transferred during a lightning discharge, heights of the charge centers (regions or volumes of net charge in the atmosphere), and many other features of thunderclouds.
